  • AN ANALYSIS OF THE WATER RESOURCES IN GUANGDONG PROVINCE

    In this article,the total amount of water resources in Guangdong Province are calculated,the basic characteristics of their temporal and spatial distribution the types of ground water and the water quality are analysed.At the sametime,some proposals for the development and utilization of the water resources are put forward:(1) enhancing waterlog control in main rovers increasing comprehensive benefits of the use of water,(2) taking effective measures to meet the demands for water in cities and towns,(3) exploiting water power resource, and (4) improving the macro management of water.

    The natural conditions in Shanwei are introduced in this paper.Through analysing the characteristics of water resources in the municipality,the author evaluates the benefits and problems in developing and utilizing the resources.Some suggestions about further development and utilization of the water resources in Shanwei Municpality are put forward.

    Since 1981,using the theory of agricultural ecosystem,a large area of low-lying land in Zhaoqing Municipality have been transformed into three forms of land use which all achieve good benefits:(1)the dyke-pond system with proper proporation of dyke and pond;(2)high production fish pond;(3) primary dyke-pond system or rice fields,which can be easily transformed into each other.some proposals about the further development of dyke-pond system are put forward.

    The tropical precious Dipterocarpaceae varieties of timber forest were induced systematically and summed up overall in this paper.on the basis of their geographical distributions and environments,the causes of natural distributions of Dipterocarpaceae varieties in Hainan Island were analysed by the theory of evolution and the theory of similar climate.The morphological characteristics,living habit,the place of production,distribution,living environment,timber nature and utilization of each kind of twelve-species in five categories of Diptemcarpaeeae varieties which grew naturally and were artificially cultivated were introduced in detail.It provides scientific basis for effective protection and development of Dipterocarpaceae variety resources.

    The composition of clay mineral of beach soil in Guangdong Province and Haifan Province is studied in this paper by X-Ray diffraction,differential thermal anysis and electron microscope、According to the results of analysis,the clay mineralogical characteristics of beach soil are found that there have more hydromicas commonly,the crystatlinity of Kaolinite is weak and montmorillonite,chlorite and its similar mineral,some mixed-layer mineral,diatomaceous piece,iron sulfide,etc.

    The tropical rain forest vegetation in Xishuangbanna region,Yunnan Province of China is introduced in this paper.In comparison with main areas of tropical rain forests in the world,this region is in a little insufficiency of annual quantity of heat and precipitation because of its relatively high latitude and elevation.To the northwest of the region there are high mountains which are barriers of the cold air from north in winter and in most of the region there are dense fog compensating precipitation in dry season,therefore tropical rain forests are still existent in the area below 900m elevation of the region.The tropical rain forests in the area have the same community structure as lowland rain forests in S.E.Asia but in its flora there have the conspicuous characters of transition from tropic to subtropic,and so the tropical rain forests are of the northern edge kinds of the tropical rain forests in S.E.Asia.In recent years,the area has been opened up to use in a large scale and the primary forests have been severely destroyed,so the tropical rain forest vegetation has the tendency of extinction.Now the conservation and research of the forests have to be done.
  • ANCIENT MARINE TRACES IN LIANHUA MOUNTAIN, PANYU COUNTY

    Ancient marine traces in Lianhua Mountain,Panyu County,include marine erosion landforms and marine accumulation landforms.They are(1)marine erosion traces in north of Lianhua Mountain Paper Factory,(2)sea caves in front of Lianhua Mountain Clothing Factory,(3)marine erosion traces in the east of Fulian Hills,and(4)three barriers which run from northeast to southwest in the south of Shilou-Chendaixian.According to the 14C dating,these ancient marine traces emerged about 5000-4000 years B.P..They are the important evidents of geographic changes of Lianhua Mountain.Because some ancient marine traces will be damaged, the author considers that the departments being responsible for the work should take protective measures quickly and take them as tourist spots.

    According to the 14C-dating data (171 data are measured by the authors and 162 by other laboratories) and thermolu-minescence dating data (27 data are measured by the authors and 6 by other laboratories),it is considered that the Zhujiang Delta began to deposit in middle phase of Late Pleistocene.Combining with the researches in the petro-facies,palaeobiology,chemistry and be mineral,the authors consider that the formation of the Zhujiang Delta may divided into five stages:Q22-1 fluvial alluvial stage;Q22-2 fossil delta accumulating stage;Q23 erosion and fluvial alluvial stage;Q41-Q42 neogenic delta accumulating stage;Q43 modern delta accumulating and expanding stage.The problem about sedimentary age error is also discussed in this paper.

    Tanjiang Valley is situated in the west of the Zhujiang Delta.It is the famous hometown of oversea Chinese.Urban development in this area is somewhat different from the others.Based on the historical and the present situation of the towns in the valley,the main problems of urban development are pointed out in this paper, and suggestions for solving these problems is also put forward.

    Longhai-Lanxin economic belt is the vast area with Longhai-Lanxin Railway Line which stretches over China from East to West with Lianyungang and Huoerguosi as its Eastern and Western terminals respectively.The area,which is characterised by "one line with two ports",has abundant produces and convenient traffic with unobstructed interflow of commodities.It has also advantages of natural resources and geographic situation.However,due to various reasons,these advantages havn't been brought into full play.And it is still an underdeveloped area as compared with the developed regions in the country.

    Thailand is rich in natural resources but was an underdeveloped country in the past.In last 20 years,its society has been stable.The government has paid great attention to the economic development and many rational policies and measures have been adopted since then its economy has developed by leaps and bounds,and the country is called "the Fifth Little Dragon in Asia". Its main experiences are:to pay attention to the development of basic industry based on the natural resources in the country,to develop export-oriented production, and tourism actively,to enact preferential investment policies and improve the investment environment so as to absorb more foreign ventures and use them reasonably, and to attach importance to science and technology and intelligence investment.
