Huang Guangqing is a Bachelor of Engineering graduate from Tongji University and received his PhD from the University of Hong Kong. He is currently deputy director, professor, doctoral tutor, and registered urban planner of Guangzhou Institute of Geography, as well as a professor and doctoral tutor at the School of Environment, South China University of Technology. He is director of Guangdong Public Laboratory of Geospatial Information Technology and Application, director of Guangdong Geological Disaster Emergency Technology Research Center, and editor-in-chief of Tropical Geography.

His research interest is mainly focused on regional resources, environmental evolution, geological disaster prevention and control, geographic information technology, regional and urban ecological planning, and regional sustainable development.

He has more than 80 publications (including SCI-indexed papers) to his name in core journals, and has published 3 co-authored monographs. He has led and completed more than 50 scientific research projects, including National Natural Science Foundation projects, the National 908 Special Project of State Oceanic Administration, the National Science and Technology Support Project, the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Planning Project, Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation projects, international cooperative research projects, and local government research projects. His various achievements have won 9 scientific and technological awards including scientific and technological progress awards, planning awards, and environmental protection awards.
