Zhaoqing Prefecture is situated in the middle-west of Guangdong Province, China, covering an area of 22825 km2, with a population of 5.08 million. In this paper, based on the analysis and evaluation of the natural resources and the socio-economic conditions of the prefecture, three economic regions, the East, the South, and the North, are deliminated, and a strategy of "clock-wise advancing" for economic development is suggested. The key problems of the development of major sectors are discussed. Five principal industrial circles are proposed to be distributed: comprehensive (food, machine, electronic, etc.) industry, chemical industry (esp. that of forest products), textile industry, building materials industry, and wood and bamboo processing and paper-making industry.
