  • RURAL ENERGY PROBLEMS IN GUANGDONG PROVINCE

    Guangdong is one of the provinces in China being seriously lacking in energy 50 million people who live in rural areas of the province suffer from the bad shortage of energy in both production and livelihood.In this paper the author describes the present situation of the rural energy consumption in Guangdong and points out that for each year a great amount of wood,grass and straw is used tbr fuel in the countryside.This has done great damages to the ecological environment and has also restricted the development of production in rural areas.For mitigation of the rural energy problems,the author suggests that the ways and measures be suited to the local conditions;the local energy resources be made full use of;different kinds of energy be mutually complementary;energy be consumed economically;the management of rural energy be improved;and more energy supports be given to the rural areas in such developed regions as the Zhujiang Delta,etc.

    The present features of cultivated land reduction are analyzed in this paper.The aftermath is also indicated,due to the reduction and land resource destroy to the regional econmic development.It has been found that the cultivated land reduction,agricuture backword and population over-growth have affected each other and formed a kind of vicious circulation.Finally,the counter measures are inquired from the viewpoint of ideology,state policy,organization management and technical mediums,so as to solve the contraditions among economic development,city construction and cultivated land protection.

    The Huizhou West Lake which is known as a " brilliant pearl" in the East Guangdong,is one of the main scenery spots in the province.It is also an important component of the Huizhou City.There are many interrelations such as interdependent,promotion,and restriction between the lake and the city.Because of the historical conditions,there is a serious interference phenomenon between the scenery spot and city development construction.As the results,the superiority of tourism resource around the West Lake can not be fully achieved,the urban economic development is limited,and inversely,the urban development only plays little promotive role in construction of the lake.The interaction mechanism and its variation regularity of the lake and the city are expounded with the theories of urban geography,urban ecology and spatial analysis.Furthermore,the authors suggest that the interrelation between the lake and the city can only be coordinated well from the viewpoint of improving the urban ecological environment,urban development strategy and regional economy exploitation.Finally,several measures are given account to the problems.

    The seasonal variations of air temperature and precipitation in Taiwan island are investigated by means of harmonic analyses.The results show that the climatic differences between the eastern and western parts of Taiwan island are very prominent because of different geographical conditions.The amplitude of annual wave of air temperature increase from southeast to northwest and the occurrence date of temperature peak delays from southwest to northeast.The latitudinal distributions of the occurrence date of rainfall peak are characterized by deferment from north to south in the western part and from south to north in the eastern,part of the island.
  • STUDY ON STATISTICAL UNIT OF RELIEF AMPLITUDE IN CHINA

    The research on statistical unit of relief amplitude is one of the basic work for compiling 1:4,000,000 scale geomorphological map.This paper explains the method and processes in seeking the best statistical unit of relief amplitude in China.The processes are as follows:(1)to make a set of statistical units with transparent film;(2)to use 1:200,000 scale topographic map as a working map;(3)to arrange 600 sample points along several profile lines on the working map of the whole country;(4)to measure the relief amplitude of each sample point with transparent statistical untts,so that 9000 basic data could be obtained;(5)statistically to analyse the data;and indicate the intermidiate results with graphs.It has been derived from the above analyses that 21 square kilometres is the best statistical unit of measuring relief amplitude in the most areas,especially in the middle-high mountain areas in China.

    Zhongshan plays an important role in the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone.According to on-the-spot surveys,the sedimentary facies analyses of samples from both outcrops and drilling holes,and the study on a 1:10000 topographic map,the authors summarized the geomorphological characteristics,compiled a geomorphological type map,and classified landforms into 4 types (mountain,hill,table and plain),10 subtypes,and 29 microlandforms.The authors also evaluated the engineering-geological conditions of different geomor-phological types,and concluded eight stages of the development of Zhongshan landforms which were:1.140 000 000~40 000 yrs.B.P.,basal landform formation;2.40 000-32000 yrs.B. P.,river plain;3.32 000-18000 yrs.B.P.,ancient delta plain;4.18 000-12 000 yrs.B.P.,river valley deposition and upland weathering;5.12 000-8000 yrs.B.P.,beginning of the rise of the local sea level;6.8000-5000 yrs.B. P.,rapid rise of sea level,bay deposition;7.5000-2500 yrs.B. P.,stable sea level,new delta plain;8.2500 yrs.B. P. to present,new delta plain spread.
  • WHERE WAS THE DUPANG RIDGE?

    On the present map the Dupang Ridge,one of the famous Five Ridges in South China,is situated on the boundary between Jiangyong County,Hunan Province,and Guanyang County,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.This has been a mistake since the Tang or the Song Dynasty (960～1279 A.D.).Originally the Dupang Ridge was not the place as it is at present.Comparing the historical records with the results of field investigation and largescale maps,the author suggests that the ancient Dupang Ridge be exactly the Daluogai Ridge on the boundary between Lianxian County,Guangdong,and Lanshan CounW,Hunan,50 km northwest to the town of Lianzhou.The Dupang Ridge Way,extending across Nanfeng Ao Pass just beside the Daluogai Ridge,was one of the most important communication lines connecting North and South China.
  • STUDY ON THE CONCENTRATION OF TRACE ELEMENTS OF NINE TYPICAL SOILS IN GUANGDONG AND HAINAN PROVINCES

    This paper focuses on the concentrations of the fourteen trace elements and the corelations of their contents of soil,parent material and rock as well as the corelations between every two elements in the nine typical soils in Guangdong and Hainan provinces.In the soils,comparing with the trace element contents of normal softs in the world (Andrews-Jones,1968)the average weight of Pb,As and Hg is high(1.5～5m),and that of Sr and Cd is low (less than 0.1m).On the base of the principal component analysis,the sequence of the elements concentrations of the nine soils is ranged with the index of Mn/Zr,and the sequence of weathering intensity of the soils is also ranged with the index of Mn+Zr.The corelation analysis shows high corelative coefficient on the concentration of trace elements between the various types of soils and their parent materials.No significant corelation of the concentration is found between soil and rock,or parent material and rock with the exception of Co,Pb,Cu,Zr,and Ni contents.

    The coastal development zones,situated in the forward position of openning to outside world,play the role of "four windows" and "two fans" and they are important components of open policy in China.In the last four years,a relatively good investment environment has been formed,and 290 projects have been invested by foreigner in the coastal development zones.A good perspective is expectable for the zones.However,in pace with the readjustment of the industrial structure in developed countries and in view of the severe competition in international markets,the zones are facing to not noly new opportunities,but also great challenges.For further successful development,it is necessary to increase the open degree in the zones,which means to implement similar policies of free port and to perfect the market system including free investment,free trading and free competition,in a word,to further better investment environment.

    Under the excisting land management system,the land could not be made a full use,not could the high economic return,sound social result and environmental benefit be achieved in Shantou special economic zone.It is bound to introduce a kind of new system,land lease system.It is obviously that a estate market and considerable prices of land will turn up with the process of its economic development.The strategy and method of carrying out land lease system are expounded and it is indicated that a series of flexible operation policies must be put into practise on the basis of economic situation in different stage of its development so as to promote the prosperity and to perfect the industrial structure in Shantou special economic zone.

    Cote D'ivoire has made great progress in developing tropical agriculture since it became independent in 1960.Total agricultural production value in 1985 increased 20 times of that in the year of independence.Output of cocoa and coffee has been ranked among the world's most advanced.Total yields and yield per unit area of oil palm,coconut,rubber,pineapple and banana have mounted to the top of Africa.Success of tropical agriculture development in Cote D'ivoire,besides the natural exceptional advantages,is because a complete set of correct policies has been successfully carried out.(1)Adhering to the principle of taking agriculture as the basis and to the policy of agriculture diversification;(2)Laying good distribution of the crops in line with the local conditions,giving full play to the local advantages and making up a comparative well-conceived plan;(3)Providing preferential policies in tax revenue,price,loan and material supply so as to foster agricultural development;(4)Going all out for both internal and external open policy,relying on varied forces to support agriculture;(5)Combining closely scientific research with production,so that popularized application of scientific research results can be quickly transformed into productivity.

    Indication is a kind of technical language of drawing,as well as a symbol too.Indication and symbol are the same in property but different in the scope and characteristic of application.To study the law,impression characteristics and figure change of indications is one of the basis to design the symbols of special map.Known by people,map is a kind of symbolism formed by special language of map such as symbol,colour and word,which are also basic essential dements of indication design,so to connect the special map symbols with social marks makes the map easily to be understood.It is helpful for us to standardize and also significant to design the special map symbols.
