    Shantou interior harbor,which can be classified as a finegrained sediment in let according to the analysis of its sediment characteristics,includes the area from the mouth of the Rongjiang river to the Mayu estuaries.An interior mouth bar develops in the inlet.There have been three 5000-ton berthes and one 3000-ton berth in the old port till 1987,and a new 5000-ton berth being extended for grains and other materials.Passenger ships can directly travel to Hong Kong.In order to create a better investment environment to meet the needs of the economical development of Shantou and its special economic zone,it is necessary to build a deep-water harbor.Because of the serious siltation problems in the old port,an investigation of the causes of deposition and the feasibility of building a deep-water berth in the inlet should be taken.So,based on the charicteristics of tide,tidal currents,the source of sediment,surface sedimentation on the sea floor and the mixing process of fresh and salt water,the law of sediment transport in the inlet are analysed,and the siltation and growth processes of the tidal way and the internal mouth bar are discussed,especially on the feasibility of constructing a deep-water port in the inlet.Finally,the deposition rates of two planned deep-water ports in Zhuchidu and Niutianyang after taking different improvement measures on the external mouth bar are also assessed.

    The South Beach of Taishan County situated in the Pearl River Delta Economic District there are many favourable conditions for its development,such as vast territory,long sunshine time,abundant rainfall,rich aquatic resources,and good planting and cultivating technique of local peasants.But some difficuties still exist.Lack of surface water,high salt content of the soils.drainage problem and shortge of funds all make the development not so easy.The history exploring the South Beach shows that the single mode of production of open pond(sea water can flow in and out freely)could not get better economic benefit per unit area.According to the physical condition of the South Beach,a combination of open pond,ditchpond,and pond-field should be adopted.From the above view of point,the South Beach can be divided into four sections with different fuctions:(1)the southwest open pond section;(2)the middle dike-pond section;(3)the northeast forest culture,stock raising and sugurcane planting section;(4)the reclaiming offshore beach section for planting Sparlina alteniflora Loise.And four experiments and five improvememt measures are also suggested.

    From quantitative and structural perspective of population distribution of the urban districts of Guangzhou;the positive and negative effects of the distribution pattern on the economy and society of the city have been analysed.The decay fuction of population density is applied to set up a mathematical model for this metropolitan city.After examining the age structure of population of the eight urban districts,the anther proposes three new concepts,i. e. old-man-density,labour-density and child-density.The relationships between the above densities and the economic and social development of the urban districts are also discussed.Finally,some suggestions about population redistribution of the city are given.

    To meet the need of environmental influence assessment for the economic developing along the Xiaotang Reach of Zhujiang River,a water quality model has been developed.Based on field data,the model and its parameters are verified and calibrated.The-application of the model are presented as follows:(1)Allowable pollutant burden in the Xiaotang Reach of Zhujiang River is discussed according to the results of computation at the designed low discharge.(2)The changes of pollutant concentration caused by oscillation of tidal flow and fluctuation of water lever are also discussed.

    According to the analysis of dynamical factors and geomorphology,the coastal landforms of Beihai Peninsula was formed by transgression during postglacial period.The differences of the formations and hydrodynamic process are the main factors shaping the present configuration of the Peninsula.The same distribution of submarine remanent sand as coast cliffs of Zhangjiang formation and Beihai formation indicates the retrogression process caused by marine erosion.The main shore types in the area are barriers-logoons and rocky coast.Marine caves,cliffs,gravel beach and marinecut platform are well developed.The source of nearshore materials,depends on erosion of the loose Zhangjiang and Beihai formations But the coast is still quite stable,although a large quantity of sediment carried by the Nanliu River forms a submarine delta in the Lianzhou bay.

    With an area of 11420 mu,Hejiaoping is Located in the southwest part of Lianping County,Guangdong Province.It has superior natural conditions of warm climate,abundant rainfall and rich soil resources,which are suitable for developing a comprehensive economic system of farming,forestry,stock breeding and sideline.It is very important to utilize such conditions rationally for the economic development of this mountain area.The ecological environment of Heijaoping is studied in this paper.The physical-chemical characteristics and the distribution of different types of soil are also analysed.Based on the assessment of the land of Heijiaoping,it can be divided into six productive divisions of forest,grange,miscellaneous fruits,tea,industrial crops and food crops.

    Located in the northwest of Guangdong province,on the north bank of middle reachs of the Xijiang river(the West river),the mountainous Fengkai county with peaks,caves and stones of fantastic shapes,green hills and clear water,and other wonderful picturesque scenery,is one of the most famous scenic spots in the Lingnan region(south of,the Five Ridges),Various rocks of different epoches,such as granite,sand-shale and limestone,provide multifarious sights for tourists of which the most attractive is the so-called "first stone in the world",the multicoloured stone.Actually,it is the biggest in China.There are also a lot of historical remains and beautiful legends in the county.Such abundant tourist resources need careful plannning and management,so,some suggestions are put forward to improve the travelling environment and get better economic and ecological effects.

    Without biological parameters of tropical crops,the solar radiation,heat and moisture conditions for tropic crop production and the yields of such crops in Hainan Island are analysed.A nonlinear calculating model of climatic productivity and potential climatic productivity is estiblished.The climatic productivity and the potential productivity of eight tropical crops has been obtained from this model,and the yields of such tropical crops can be forecast by the model.

    Based on data of rainstorms with daily preciptation equal or greater than 80mm during the period of from 1959 to 1980 the rainstorms in Hainan Island were analysed.The result showed that the storm center of the island was located in Wanning county and Qiongzhong county.The storm rainfall accounted for about one-fifth of the annual total.About 91 percent of rainstorm precipitatiou concentrated in wet season.The rainfall amounts most typhoon rainstorms were greater than 200mm.The typhoon storm center often appeared in Qiongzhong county.The maximum daily precipitation was 777 mm which occurred on Jianfengling tree farm in Ledong county.Most of the heaviest rainstorms were caused by typhoon.The weather systems producing rainstorms in the Island could be classfied into three types:(1)the systems of Ef and Wf associated with cold air mass and cold front activities;(2)tropical cyclones;(3)the southwest trough SWt,Viet-Nam trough Yt,and the South China Sea trough St.About 70 percent of rainstorms related to low latitudinal and tropical weather systems.Comparision of the dry year(1977)and the wet year(1978)indicates that the great difference in annual rainfall between those two years related to typhoon activity and rainstorm days.Less rainstorms ahd typhoon rainfall caused the serious drought in 1977 with the minimum annual rainfall of 674 mm in Yaxian county,while more rainstorms and typhoon rainfall resulted in the severe flood in 1978 with the maximum annual rainfall of 3760 mm in Qiongzhong county.

    The content and geographical distribution of trace elements(Cu、Zn、Cd、Pb、Cr、Ni、Mo and Hg)in soil of Hainan Island were investigated.From the resultsthe following conclusions can be reached:1.Variation of trace element contents in soil mainly depends on their soil-forming materials.Among all soil-forming materials in the Island,the total content of trace elements decreases gradually from basalt,marine mud,granite,quartz sandstone to marine sand;2.In comparison with the world average,the average Pb content of soil in the whole Island and that of Cd are higher,but Cu、Zn、Ni and Cr lower and As and Hg about the some,respectively;3.The frequency of each trace element content is rather concentrated,but the standard deviations and the variation coefficients of defferent trace elements contents vary greatly;4.Because of the differences in soil-forming material and soil forming process,the total content of trace elements in soils of Hainan Island decreases gradully from Laterite,paddy soil,coast solontchak,dry red earth,lateritic red earth,yellow earth to coastal sandy soil.

    Tanzania is situated on the East African Plateau.Its physical and ecological environment is more complex than that of West Africa on the same latitude.The diverse physical conditions offer advantageous opportunities for the variety of agriculture.There ore many regional differences of apiculture in,this country.For scientifically exploiting and utilizing the available natural and human resources,it is very important to recognize these differences.The essential characteristics of regional differences of agriculture and the main natural socio-economic conditions affecting the formation of these differences in Tanzania are analysed.Six types of agricultural regions could be classified.Byanalysing the geographical conditions,the characteristics and problems of agricultural production of each region the agricultural development of are discussed.The direction and some measures foreach region are also suggested.
