To evaluate the moisture conditions of Taiwan Province, four indices are used:aridity index Eo/r,precipitation excess r-Eo,evaporation ratio E/Eo and evaporation difference Eo-E,where Eo is the potential evaporation,r the precipitation and E the actual evaporation. The monthly and annual values of the potential and actural evaporation of 22 stations in Taiwan are calculated by using revised Penman and Turc formulae, respectively.Based on the analysis of the spatial and temporal distribution of the four indices, seven moisture regions in Taiwan are delimitated:The Northeast Perhumid Zone(A1),The East-Middle Perhumid Zone(A2),The Mountainous Perhumid Zone(A3),The West Humid Zone(B1),The Southwest Humid Zone(B2),The Southeast Humid Zone(B3) and The Penghu Semiarid Zone(C).

A research of the atmospheric visibility is of great importance to ensure traffic safety of a city and reform atmospheric environment. In this paper, based on the data of the horizontal visibility,in Guangzhou, the variation with time and space of the visibility, the formation reasons of the low visibility and the effect of the urban development on the visibility have been analysed. The result of analysis shows that the urban developmen results in the decreasing of the high visibility(7-8 grade on the visibility range) and thet increasing of the general visibility(5-6 grade).

Shangchuan Island and Xiachuan Island are two of the biggest islands along the coast of western Guangdong province,China. The faults in these two islands are divided into two sets,NE and NW trends, controling the development of the landforms. There are five-step landform surfaces:270-350m, 170-200m, 120-150m,50-60m and 0-5m.The step-landform is the evidence of regional crust intermittence elevating. The landforms of the two islands can be classified into 14 types, consisting of granite and metamorphic rock as well as Quaternary sediment.According to the data of C14 ages, strata, geological structure and sporopollen analysis,we deduce that these two islands were separated from the continent in the Middle Holocene(Q42) by the transgression. Dated by C14 method, the age of the lagoon plain shell muck sample(buried depth 1.5m) is 2780±90 yrs B.P.,which shows that the lagoon plain has been forming since the Late Holoceae(Q43).

Soil erosion occurred in the low granite hills and flatforms in middle Shenzhen area.It is divided into intensity(9100T/KM2.year),moderate(6500-9100T/KM2.year) and light(2600-6500T/KM2.year),based on the erosion modulus calculated by observing the tree roots laid bare above the ground,in combination with the present conditions o f soil erosion. The distribution of main severe erosion areas and their characteristics were described in this paper. It is considered that the improper human activities, such as deforestation and cultivation on the steep slopes in hilly areas,as "well as excavation in constructing highways and dams are the main factors to cause severe erosion.Natural conditions such as the weathering layers, rainfall and topograporaplay an important part in this process.

The paper outlines the salient features of the development of the port of Hong Kong(Xianggang),especially in the lights of its external relationships, its morphology and its management. It is argued that laissez faireism, the governing ideology of Hong Kong has profound impacts on the shape and process of its development and it is also the main attribute of its success,However, changing circumstances has made some kind of government intervention into the port business necessary,as exemplified by the efficiency displayed at the Public Cargo Handling Areas over that of the public waterfronts. However,in other cargo-handling ventures, such as container terminals,it will be better to leave them in the hands of private enterprises. The popularity and the speed of containery zation of }Horig Kong over Singapore in the last decade have demonstrated at least that laissez faireism and private ownership of container terminals have much to recommend and nationalization of these facilities is not necessarily a key to success.

With an altitude of 4095m,Mont Cameroun is the highest peak in West Africa. The piedmont area approaches equator, hence is well known for its distinctive tropical mountaro landscape. In the summer of 1982,the author had an opportunity to conduct geographical investigations on Cameroon and climbed the summit of West Africa. The regularity of vertical differentiation of the tropical African mountain plant landscape left a deep impression on the author.
