This study covered an area including south parts of Fujian,Guangdoug Provinces and Gnangxi Autonomous Region.Lieing in topical belt and south subtropical belt, it is one of the important tropical crops productiou basen in China, Owing to the effect of monsoon activities, snowfall or frost may occur in this area as a much stronger cold wave intrudes. As a result, the tropical crops, especially the rubber trees, could be damaged severely. Sometimes, some of the rubber plantationn could be even destroyed. An abnormally severe winter(e, g.,ice or snow occurs on tropical plain) is one of the standards that judge the climate of a certain period.

From the standpoint of regional climatology, the typhoons travelling into the western areas(to the west of 112°E) of the South China Sea are referred as the westward-moving typhoons, The typhoon tracks are divided into three types according to their Ianding places, The influence of various types of typhoon, the distribution for extremes of heavy rainfall and strong wind associated with typhoon, and the typhoon da makes have been analyzed.

Being one of the problem meteorological disasters, the cold waves have a strong inf luence on Hainan Island. For understanding their synoptic climatological background, the climatological fronts and the main weather systems at surface level in winter months over Hainan Island and its adjacent areas have been discussed. The climatological characteristics of cold waves, the extreme low temperature and the damage to rubber trees, both of which are caused by cold waves, have been analysed.

Songtao Reservoir,an important hydroconstruction in Hainan Island, has a volume of 3040×106m3.A large amount of sediments were accumulated since its impoundment as result of deterioration of logical evironment around the reservoir. In an attempt to make clear the condition thereupon, investigation was carried out in November, 1983,using both the geological depositional interface method and the 210pb method.

The residual current in the Zhu jiang estuary is controled by such factors as stream flows littoral current, density gradient. current resulted from the South China Sea Warm Current.and boundary conditions. In view of the whole sea area, the top residual current is mainly constrained by stream flow and wind current, and the middle and bottom residual current is effected by density gradient current. The littoral current changes from time to time and shifts from place to place.

The study indicate that the Old-red Sandy Sediment is a kind of moderate-fine sandy sediment diposited in shore, formed in about 20,000 yr B.P, and suffered stronger chemical weathering, The chronology and sedimentology of the Old-red Sandy Sedimenf show that (1)the highest sea-level of the transgression of middle late-Pleistocene appeared about 20,000 yr B.P.,(2) the transgression didn't end until 18,000 yr B.P.,(3)the climate of the late-Wiirn wasn't too cold and dry in this area(4):the neotectonic fault-block motion of this area have been active since about 20,000 yr BP.
